A concept much talked about, a concept many would dream to make alive and a concept worth getting life – Satyamev Jayate. As a common man I had always envisioned change coming through revolution. Something that would stir a person’s belief and make him change the status-quo. The show does that.
Usually Sunday mornings are talked about being lazy, hangover driven and occasionally “long-drive” mornings. However, now the trend seems to be changing for most. We would rather now spend time watching Amir Khan telling us what we actually know but in a much better way. What is special about the show is that it is not like any other talk shows or reality shows where you have the platform being used for any media announcements or movie marketing. It is about people, a true reflection of democracy imbibed in tele-media. We don’t see movies being marketed there, we don’t see actors coming and performing and talking about their forthcoming movies, we do see genuine people who have to enlighten us about a particular issue -something which newspapers fail to do occasionally.
Now why is everyone talking about the show – well for many good reasons. First it has the “no-nonsense” Amir Khan presenting it. People who have seen him in movies and been curious about his absence on awards ceremony and portrayed as a perfectionist would be eager to know how he performs on television – full marks. He has done it well and has surpassed all the popularity rankings, TRPs that has ever been recorded for a show hosted by a film actor, rather actor, director, producer, singer, etc.
His topics aren’t politically driven gossips but core issues that aren’t talked about openly but whispered through. He has made it a discussion for living room and made people debate, discuss and realize what is right and wrong, opened channels for dialog. Also the very fact that he does present statistics on the show does imply that he is not reading through surveys and reports on internet but investing time and money to collect/analyze data that he would want to talk about. This indeed acts as an eye-opener for all. How many of us know that child molestation percentages are that high? Nobody right? But the show has not told us that it is not something rare.
A perfect time and a perfect day and a perfect medium to reach through the people has enabled this program to build up its viewers base strong enough to drive change. We hope that this show turns out to be one-of-its-kind to revolutionize the thinking of the society, does making it a better place for us to survive and live through happily.
